What Is Aces Up Solitaire?

Aces Up Solitaire (also called Idiot's Delight, Aces High, or Four Aces) is a single-deck card game where the goal is to discard all cards except the four aces. You win by reducing your hand to just four aces — one in each column.

Cards are dealt four at a time from the stock onto four columns. A card can be discarded when a higher-ranked card of the same suit is showing in another column. Aces are always the highest card in their suit and can never be discarded. Empty columns can be filled by moving the top card of any column there.

Aces Up Solitaire Rules

The standard rules of Aces Up Solitaire are straightforward:

  • Goal: Discard all 48 non-ace cards, leaving only the four aces.
  • Setup: Deal one card face-up onto each of four columns. The remaining 48 cards form the stock.
  • Discard: Any face-up top card can be discarded if a higher card of the same suit is showing in another column. Aces are always highest and cannot be discarded.
  • Deal: After all discard and empty-column moves are used, click the stock to deal one card face-up to each column.
  • Move: The top card of any column can be moved to an empty column at any time.
  • Win: All 48 non-ace cards discarded. Score: 48/48.
